Zara Amdur

Zara Amdur is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy department at Texas Tech University. She holds a PhD in Philosophy and a MA in Classical Studies from Boston University. Her research focuses on the ethical and epistemological implications of gendered metaphors in Plato. Her ongoing projects include papers on Socratic midwifery, self-cultivation, and the epistemic vices of Socrates’ interlocutors. During AY 2026-27, she is visiting Notre Dame's Center for Philosophy of Religion, where she will work on a series of papers that draw on Iris Murdoch and Plato in order to argue that generativity is an ethically rich metaphor that deserves greater recognition in our discussions of beauty, love, and attention.
