Nevim Borçin

I received my Ph.D. from the Philosophy Department at Central European University, Austria, in December 2023. Since then, I’ve been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the same department. My research focuses on Aristotle’s practical philosophy, and in particular, on methods of ethics.

Abstract: This project focuses on Aristotle's ethical methodology in the Eudemian Ethics, which has received considerably less attention than the Nicomachean Ethics, especially concerning methodological considerations. It delves into Aristotle’s views on how to conduct ethical inquiries and explores the strategies, tools, and principles employed by Aristotle in investigating ethical phenomena in the Eudemian Ethics. The project challenges the traditional dialectical orthodoxy by proposing that Aristotle employs a non-dialectical method of inquiry in the Eudemian Ethics, aligning broadly with the scientific method outlined in Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics.
