He also helds a fellowship at the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (Italy) within the project TeLPh - Teaching and Learning Philosophy in the Regnum Italiae (1250-1450). After completing his PhD in 2021 both at the Università del Salento (Lecce, Italy) and the Universität zu Köln (Cologne, Germany), Dr. de Benedittis worked on Digital Durandus Research Portal (DDRP), developing the digital edition of Durandus of S. Pourçain’s Commentary on the Sentences. At the same time, he collaborated on the critical edition of the III Book of Maimonides’ Dux neutrorum, transcribing and collecting part of the manuscripts.

Dr. de Benedittis is finalizing the critical edition of the Commentary on the principium, prologue and distinctions 1 to 3 of the Book I of John Pecham’s Commentary on the Book I of the Sentences, whose publication is forthcoming. He has an interest in the critical edition of medieval texts, particularly on theology and science, and the mutual interaction between them.

Abstract: My project focuses on the Critical Edition of the Commentary on the Book I of the Sentences written by the Franciscan master John Pecham, who is considered one of the most significant figures among Franciscans after Bonaventure. The focus of my work is Pecham’s principium in Sententias with four attached questions, his Commentary on the prologue of Peter Lombard, and his Commentary on the distinctions 1 to 3 (23 folios in total).
