The members of the Program in Early Christian Studies at the University of Notre Dame proudly announce the first graduate conference in Early Christian Studies. We invite graduate students of all programs and levels to join their peers, as well as the faculty of the Departments of Theology and Classics, for three days of scholarship, exchange of ideas, and socializing on the campus of Notre Dame.
The study of early Christianity and late antiquity has emerged as one of the most exciting crossover fields in the humanities. At the confluence of history, classics, theology, religious studies, archaeology, and the social sciences, the study of this field is inherently interdisciplinary and both welcomes and rewards creativity, new approaches, and a rigorous re-evaluation of existing models.
We will consider papers on all subjects related to the study of early Christianity and late ancient Judaism, as well as late antiquity, broadly defined. Fields of research may include theology, history, literature, art, philosophy, archeology, manuscript studies, gender studies, digital humanities, and others.
We are delighted to announce the participation of two distinguished keynote speakers:
Robin Jensen, University of Notre Dame
Éric Rebillard, Cornell University
The conference will be held in person on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, unless the current pandemic should make it necessary to move it to Zoom. We will follow the recommendations of the CDC and local health officials and inform the participants as soon as possible. However, a Zoom option will be available for participants and speakers.
For conference speakers, meals and accommodations will be provided free of cost. In addition, modest travel stipends are available based on need. We will assist all participants with finding affordable lodging and food options.
Your abstract should have 200-300 words for a 20-minute paper. Please submit it by Monday, March 28, 2022. Decisions on acceptance will be made by Monday, April 4, 2022. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to welcoming you to Notre Dame!
